Alexander Gustafsson was emotional after his loss to Anthony Johnson Saturday night at UFC on FOX 14 in front of his Swedish fans.
Nevertheless, “The Mauler” composed himself and conducted a post-fight interview inside the Octagon, thanking everyone for their support.
After that, Gustafsson provided FOX Sports 2 with even more inside on the loss, which was his first defeat via strikes.
“Johnson caught me,” he said. “I wasn’t there. I felt like I was in deep water.
“It doesn’t feel good at all. It’s very tough. He put a lot of pressure on me, but I thought I had everything under control. He threw a good counter and he caught me.”
Gustafsson saw his UFC light heavyweight title fight rematch slip through his fingers with the defeat, as he was looking to secure a rematch with Jon Jones. As for what could be next, he said that is up to the promotion.
“I’ll take a few days off to recover and then get back in the gym and learn from my mistakes,” he added.
